What is MyerConnex?
MyerConnex is a new approach to the sales, installation, and integration of home technology electronics. Let me explain…
We come from MyerEmco - a company that served the Washington area for 55 years, Last year, I made the difficult decision to close down MyerEmco’s 8 retail locations, partly in response to the difficult economic climate that was affecting everyone in our industry. But I also recognized that the way people buy home electronics was fundamentally changing. There was a time when, if you wanted the better brands of audio and video, you had to shop at a specialty store like MyerEmco to find them. Specialists like ME typically had superior showrooms, better trained staff, and they were perceived as a resource for expertise and information. Now, with the internet, anyone can find excellent information on just about anything, simply by typing it into Google. Product distribution has changed as well. Manufacturers greatly expanded distribution to both on-line sellers as well as the big-box stores, and one can now find most any brand almost anywhere. Finally, I saw a shift from people shopping for particular brands and models to a focus on simply finding solutions to their individual needs. It seems people now care less about the pieces that make up their home electronics systems than about what they do, how they operate, and how easy they are to enjoy.
So is it the same company as MyerEmco?
No. I believe that conventional retailing, where the retailer buys inventory, puts product in the warehouse, and then promotes and tries to sell boxes off the shelves, is an outdated business model. So I wanted to start from scratch, and design a new company. One that provides everything that MyerEmco always had in terms of quality products, expertise, and a focus on the customer , but a company that starts with designing systems around exactly what the client needs, and then works backwards to procure the right products to make that perfect system a reality.
What's Different?
MyerConnex carries virtually no inventory, yet we have relationships with all of the key manufacturers in our space. We can get the products that are right for you, and we don’t need to “push” anything in order to sell off our inventory. No two customers are the same, and neither are any two systems that we design for our clients. Our system designers spend the time necessary to hear exactly what you are looking for, and they can also make recommendations and provide ideas that you may have not thought of for integrating your technology to make it more seamless and easy to use.
Why Us?
Consumer electronics is not just about TV and audio anymore. Today people’s lives are intertwined with all kinds of electronic technology. They carry smart phones and iPads®, they have computer networks throughout their homes, and the internet is almost as ubiquitous in many homes as electricity. Yet the irony is that most of this technology does not work very well together. The iPad® has one of the greatest user interfaces ever invented, and yet most TVs and home theater systems are controlled by outdated remotes with hundreds of buttons that are nearly impossible to use. Why not have your iPad® or iPhone® also control your TV and audio system? Your heating and air conditioning? Perhaps the lighting throughout your home? Your security system, and also view the baby’s crib or who is knocking at the front door? This is what we do.
